Try these activities to help your child learn to count out loud from 1-10.

  1. Count out loud while walking up the stairs together.

If you have stairs in your house or nearby, use them to teach your child how to count out loud from 1-10. Start at ground level. As you each step onto each step, say 1…2…3…4…” all the way to the tenth step.

  2. Count out loud while walking to number cards.

Place the number cards 1-10 on the carpet in a row with about 5 inches in between each card. Have your child walk beside you as you walk to each card and say the number on the card.

  3. Use a number line.

Print the number line printout that is on Day 49 of the 3 Year-Old Course. Cut the two number lines apart and ask your child which one they want to use. Get a small toy for you and a small toy for your child. Make your toy jump under each number while saying that number. After you get to the end of the number line, have your child copy you with their toy.

  4. Make a row of magnetic numbers 1-10.

Get the magnetic numbers 1-9 and then a 1 and a 0 for the number 10. Put these numbers in number order from 1-10 on the table. Put another copy of the numbers 1-9 and a 1 and a 0 for the number 10 mixed up on the table. Have your child put their numbers in order underneath your row of numbers. Make sure they count out loud as they put each number where it goes.
